Immunity Goes Viral in Crosby

Immunity Goes Viral in Crosby

Happy Aging Couple

It is difficult to find a news feed, pick up a paper, or listen to a news cast that doesn’t mention the global concern for rapidly spreading illnesses. While the illnesses come in all forms, some worse than others, it is good to ask what can be done to hopefully decrease the chances of contracting one. Let’s look at some ways to enhance your immune system in Crosby and other defenses that may help.

Enhancing Your Immune System in Crosby MN

Elevate your intake of Vitamin C. It is one of the biggest immune system boosters of all. We know that having a lack of vitamin C can even make you more prone to getting sick. It is not unusual to see patients taking 1000mg, or more, to boost immunity. Next, let’s add Vitamin B6 to the arsenal. Vitamin B6 supports important reactions that help the immune system work. A powerful antioxidant that helps the body fight off infection is Vitamin E. Like many vitamins, this important addition can also help a number of other vital bodily processes. Now, add in a high-quality probiotic. It’s important to get the right one, but this helper may reduce the incidence of respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. These, and other nutrients, are critical to getting and staying healthy. That’s why one of the first things we do with our patients is get them access to medical grade nutrition they can get on their own or with our recommendation.

Now let’s turn our attention to the foods that contain these vitamins. Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, and tangerines are high in Vitamin C. So are strawberries, spinach, kale and broccoli. Surprisingly high in Vitamin C are bell peppers. For B6, try cold water fish such as salmon and tuna. Chicken and green vegetables are high in this, as are chickpeas (usually seen  as Hummus). Vitamin E can be found in spinach, nuts, and seeds. Some fermented foods that contain probiotics, either naturally or added to them, are sauerkraut, pickles, miso, tempeh, kimchi, yogurt, kefir, kombucha, sourdough bread and some cheeses.

Avoiding some things can also help. Sugar shuts the immune system down. So does drinking too much alcohol which can make you more vulnerable to lung infections. Second-hand smoke is a threat to your lungs, heightening the risk of bronchitis and pneumonia. Avoiding stress, if possible, because it affects the hormone cortisol, which high levels over time decrease your immune function.

Remember, get your Chiropractic adjustments at Shift Integrative Medicine. Research studies have shown that spinal adjustments can boost immune function by up to 400%.  These adjustments relieve nerve interference that stresses the body out and weakens the immune system and lowers the body’s response to invaders, such as the cold virus. Our club members enjoy this big advantage.

Finally, try diffusing some immune boosting essential oils. Our family uses a blend that we put in about a ½ cup of water in the diffuser. We add 10 drops of each of these oils: Lemon, Frankincense, Rosemary, and Eucalyptus.
